Gemini is excellent at synthesis once the ads or the creators are in front of it. Getting them there is the part that differs by surface. Checked on September 24, 2026.
TLDR:
- The Gemini app does not take custom MCP connectors as of September 24, 2026. Dovey still works with it two ways.
- Gemini CLI: add Dovey to ~/.gemini/settings.json under mcpServers with httpUrl https://api.makedovey.com/mcp and the tools appear in the terminal.
- Gemini app: run the search on Dovey (free for the first results), copy the cards, paste them into Gemini with the prompts from the guide.
- Save the prompts as a Gem so the Dovey to Gemini routine is one paste.
What the connector gives the assistant
Dovey is an MCP server. Connected, the assistant gets the same tools Dovey has: search the Meta Ad Library by meaning, open any advertiser's account, ask questions over the ads (angles, hooks, formats, run times, with sample sizes), read one ad in full (copy, versions, video transcript), find TikTok and Instagram creators by topic with their numbers, bookmark ads and save creators to lists. The assistant calls the tools; Dovey does the reading. Every ad it cites links back to its Ad Library page.

The Gemini app
- Run the search on Dovey or the creator search. The first results are free without an account.
- Select the cards and copy. The copy carries the numbers: days running, versions, or median views and engagement.
- Paste into Gemini with a prompt such as "Group these ads by angle and tell me which angle has the most top performers" or "Rank these creators on engagement and flag any under 1% views per follower."
- Save the prompt as a Gem. Next time it is one paste.
What to ask
- "Which of these ads share a hook family? Name the families and count them."
- "Write a brief in the structure of the top performer, for our product."
- "Which three creators here look most like they would take a UGC brief?"

Will the Gemini app take connectors later?
Google has said extensions are coming to more surfaces. When custom MCP connectors land, the address above will work there too; this page will say so.
Is the paste route worse?
